It was sad times when we heard Baby Jupiter had closed, but this York Place underground spot has been reborn as The White Rabbit. Regulars of the Baby will recognize the layout and seating, with the psychedelia being swapped out for rock’n’roll and some Alice in Wonderland whimsy.

There are lots of interesting crafts hiding back there in the fridge!

The beer choices are definitely on par with or better than the predecessor, with an attractive array of bottles including Left Hand, Brooklyn (EIPA plus the never-before-seen Half Ale), Goose Island, Fourpure, Beavertown, Anchor and Founders. Belgian fans will be pleased to see Chimary Red, Delirium, Vedett and La Trappe among others. The only tap worth mentioning is Brooklyn Lager, but it’s definitely a good one to have!

The back room. Not dramatically different from what came before.

Music is still a big focus of the atmosphere, reflected in all the album covers hanging on the walls. The classic Pac-Man arcade game remains, and to be honest it doesn’t feel dramatically different from Baby Jupiter in here. The refurbishment has given it a clean polish, while maintaining a weird and offbeat ambience. It manages to be cool and welcoming at the same time.

Because it’s a bit short on amenities (no dance floor or food), on paper it won’t compete with some of our top-rated places. However, with a great variety of craft beers and an exceedingly pleasant atmosphere, there’s still plenty to pull us down the rabbit hole.

  1. I found this BAR some time ago and I drink there all the time when I go in to Leeds.

good food, good drinks, and good bar staff

  2. Amazing bar, great bar staff, so friendly, it’s a real hidden gem, love it

  3. Definitely my favourite in Leeds, and not just because I love the music and Alice in Wonderland. Well, maybe because mainly because of that. You will have to fight me for the comfy sofa in the back alcove though, that is mine!

    • Forgot to give it a rating – and ‘maybe because mainly because’? Total incoherency! Apparently I turn into a babbling fool on a Tuesday afternoon.
