The first venue on our quest that we’d not actually been in before, Revival really surprised us. We expected it to be a bit grim and boring, but what we found was a fun and inviting theme bar. This location has gone through several incarnations, and now promises to “bring back the good times” with retro music from the 70s, 80s and 90s. There’s a full dance floor with video screen and disco balls a-plenty and the retro theme really comes through with the decor. It manages to be in your face without being oppressive. There’s also a Karaoke pod, though we didn’t indulge during this visit.
Revival is definitely not a top spot for the beer lover, however, as the drinks list is basically a “Who’s Who” of bad beers: mass-produced lagers on draught and in bottles and one very blah bitter on tap (Worthington’s Creamflow). Prices are very good, however, especially for mixed drinks, and they offer a range of signature cocktails. (A standout from reading the menu was the “Electric Blue,” which was just Wkd Blue, Jägermeister and Red Bull.)
We went on a very quiet Wednesday night, but imagine that it can get quite busy on the weekend. It will be a popular pre-clubbing spot, especially with its proximity to the railway station, but the venue is large enough to handle to a very large crowd. So while the ale selection won’t bring us running back, we will definitely make a return visit when we’re in the mood for neon, dancing, and a reasonably-priced vodka&soda.
Note: They have someone irregular opening hours, so be sure to check the website before planning your visit.
