Here at Leeds Beer Quest, we like to put our biases right up front. So we must say that we’d been to Angelica a couple of times before and were less than impressed by the service. We’re very happy to say that’s changed, however, and during our official LBQ visit we were pleasantly surprised by the vast improvement.
Don’t let this long dark corridor put you off. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
The thing that Angelica has going for it is the setting, hands down. At the top of Trinity Leeds, the roof garden boasts the best views of the city we’ve seen. The indoor seating area is also pleasant, with a nice round bar in the middle and a light, airy feel.

It’s not a place you’d come to save money, mind. Their focus is a range of cocktails, from traditional to more elaborate, to the tune of £9-10 a pop. And if you’re looking for that £380 bottle of Dom Perignon, look no further.

In the beer department, there are a few interesting bottles to choose from, including local ales from Little Valley, Rudgate and Saltaire, plus Camden Hells, Saint and Asahi. The prices stay in the upmarket range at £4-5.50 a bottle. The stout I ordered was served way too cold, but sadly that’s often the case at places which don’t specialise in beer.

The menu has a good range of small snacks to full meals, though we didn’t eat anything during this visit. The true draw here is the atmosphere, and now that the service seems to have sorted itself out we may often find ourselves here on pleasant summer evenings.
