It’s called Hirst’s Yard. It’s on Hirst’s Yard.
Along with Mook and 51% Bourbon Lounge, Hirst’s Yard is the final of a trio of bars located in…well…Hirst’s Yard. Though it’s not going to be a magnet for beer lovers, it does have a few more interesting bottles in the fridge than we expected, including six (yes, six!) from Ilkley. Other interesting offerings were CamFell Flame from Wharfebank and keg Sam Adams. And for the Rekorderlig devotees, you’ll find about 7 different flavours (all in cans).
Red Light District.
It’s cosy and welcoming, and kind of has the feel of a big log cabin. It was empty when we visited on a Tuesday evening, but that might be just because everyone was elsewhere watching the World Cup semi-final. (Even though they had set up TVs for the occasion, we think Hirst’s Yard is not usually a place to see sports.) The bartender was very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It’s nice to have a place like this in this part of town, to counteract some of the Call Lane nonsense. The prices are a bit high but in line with the area.

A main selling point is the live music. There are open mic nights as well as regular gigs — check their website for upcoming events. So while we wouldn’t seek it out specifically for its beers, it’s a good atmosphere where you can enjoy a local bottled ale and possibly a good local band.
