In the middle of the half-constructed Wellington Place complex lies a new café and bar, aiming to cater to the 9-5ers in the area. While primarily a breakfast and lunch place, they do stay open on Thursday and Friday evenings but close at 6pm on other weekdays. (These are their “winter hours” so that might change as the weather warms and more people will want to be sitting in the beer garden.)
The space itself is concrete chic (which is actually a thing, apparently; I thought I’d just invented this term): stark grey walls with an industrial feel and some nicely chosen fittings for splashes of colour and warmth. It’s busy and bustling over the lunch hour but the high ceilings and light keep it from feeling overly crowded.
Beer-wise you’ll find Brooklyn Lager/Punk IPA/Blue Moon as their crafty beers and Estrella/San Miguel/Sol/Peroni for the more boring lagers. Not a vast selection, but Brooklyn and Punk go a long way in creating a draw. The beers are £3.50-£4.00 a bottle and the food is of incredibly good value. (There’s also a Thursday/Friday happy hour special where all beers are £3.)
There’s amenities galore, including wifi and charge points and a beer garden with a nice view of the old railway loading crane. (The outdoor seating will be even more pleasant once all the building works are done.) The staff live up to their name and are very friendly indeed, and having nailed their business model, we expect them to thrive.
