Calling all VIPs! There’s a new cocktail bar in the financial district. Full of immense sleek white booths, Magnums (and Jeroboams and Methuselahs) of champagne, and an inexplicable fake lift that leads into the restaurant next door, this place is aiming for high end nightspot. And from what we saw, it sticks the landing.
Beer selection could be worse for a place like this. Bottled Brooklyn, Coopers Green, Hitachino White and Erdinger are probably enough to keep you happy if your cocktail-loving friends insisted that you come here, but it’s certainly nothing worth going out of your way for. Draught Estrella Galicia is not something you see everywhere, so that’s worth mentioning too.
You can order tapas from the bar, or go through the aforementioned fake lift and get a table at the proper restaurant Ricci’s Tapas and Cicchetti.
Pros: the ceilings are higher and it’s less dark and stuffy than most cocktail bars. When it’s not crowded the atmosphere is pretty pleasant, and the staff are friendly and welcoming.
Cons: pretty poor beer choice and the staff — friendly as they are — don’t really seem to know much about it. Would you like ice in your Brooklyn lager? Nah, you’re all right.
