The beer garden
The first sight many people see on their way in or out of Leeds, the train station Wetherspoon’s is where we begin our Beer Quest. When all the taps are flowing, they offer an impressive ten different real ales, with guest ales always available. And true to Wetherspoon’s form, you can’t complain about the prices. Their bottle selection mostly limited to mass-produced lagers, but there are some surprises like Efes and Żywiec.
They have a full and varied menu, including breakfast until noon and an all-day “brunch” plate (read: traditional English breakfast with chips instead of toast). Considering what you pay, the value for food is quite impressive and reliably consistent.
Space at the bar on a quiet day
The atmosphere is nothing to shout about. Depending on time of day and the sports calendar, this pub ranges from moderately quiet to unbearably crowded and rowdy, and is also a very popular choice for hen-nights/stag-dos to start or finish.
It’s a great place to enjoy a pint if you’ve got some time to pass before catching a train, and offers seating outside for when the weather is nice. But it wouldn’t be the place to spend your whole evening. Not for us, anyway.
