Wellington Place is an immense new development on the west side of the city centre near where we live, with office space a-plenty and until recently, just one lonely bar. That’s all changing. With some of the complex still under construction, two of the completed buildings now house new drinking spots which could be contenders for our local: Veeno and The Good Luck Club.
Leeds is the first city to have two Veeno branches. The original incarnation didn’t score high on our list, which is fair enough since it’s a wine bar. This branch’s proprietors, however, make more of an effort in providing interesting beers, offering Ama, Isaac and Birra Nazionale (all bottled) and Menabrea on tap. A small but pleasant selection.
The space is also much bigger than its Duncan Street sister, with several cosy nooks and crannies to settle into; a great quiet place for a date or to catch up with a friend.
The food menu includes meat and cheese boards, bruschetta, panini and other nibbles to keep you satisfied while enjoying a drink.
With lovely staff and the rare quality of being calm on a Friday night, we suspect we’ll pop in here with some frequency. It’s not a place to go out of the way for just for the beer, but great to have around the corner and a nice alternative to much of the insane bar culture that Leeds is awash with.
