Even though it’s our geographical local, it’s taken us this long into the quest to get across the street to Lazy Lounge. Historically they’ve focused mostly on wine, gin and whisky and they have frequent events dedicated to the exploration of these drinks. Their website, however, describes them as home also to “tentatively advancing beer.” We’re not sure what this means, except to guess that they are dipping their toes into the waters of good beer choices?
The mezzanine area was host to an office Christmas do when we visited.
Before the quest, we didn’t go to Lazy that often because their beer selection was pretty unremarkable. That has changed, and we were pleasantly surprised as we browsed the the new and improved range of bottles in the fridge, featuring many of our favourites: Brooklyn, Flying Dog, Anchor, BrewDog, Kernel, Marble, Hiver and Delirium. There’s one cask (Leeds Pale) and a few kegs pouring average world lagers like Kozel, Urquell and Asahi.
It’s very tastefully decorated but lacks a certain je ne sais quoi.
The atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired for our personal taste, as it has a very corporate vibe to it; laid-back corporate, but corporate nonetheless. The mezzanine level is frequently hired out for private events, but when it’s open there is always plenty of room to sit and have a meal. The music is a bit too loud and we prefer this place in warm months when you can enjoy their beer garden. The value could also be a bit better, with a lot of the bottles being in the £6 range.
So while we’re very happy to see the improvement in beer, the prices and general feel will probably keep us from coming here too often unless we’re feeling… well… lazy.
