A substantial presence on the corner of Millennium Square.

At the top of our notes for Revolution in The Electric Press is written: “Nothing good.” That’s not strictly true. A nice beer garden overlooks Millennium Square and the menu offers a variety of good bar food for a decent price. The inside is massive, thus being good for large groups and there are about a billion vodkas to choose from (including unusual flavours like bubblegum, chili, and birthday cake).

This revolution has gone a bit velvety.

What we really meant when we wrote that note was there is literally nothing good when it comes to beer. Craft beers are a pipe dream; real ales a fantasy; even a decent mass-produced lager won’t be turning up here. The taps pour out classics such as Carslberg, Becks, Guinness, San Miguel and Stella while the fridge stocks the likes of Budweiser, Heineken and the ever high-quality Desperados.

The bright lights flashing "VODKA" didn't distract us from the fact that there is NO GOOD BEER HERE.

Until recently they sported a Soviet theme but have recently traded in their hammers and sickles for country-house floral motifs, perhaps going for a rustic look? There’s definitely not the feeling of revolution in here anymore; instead you might expect to see little bowls of soap shaped like seashells and tables made out of wagon wheels.

A cage-like area in the back. What this cage is for is unclear to us.

There are a number of special offers throughout the week on both food and drink (check their website), but the regular price for their miserable beers is about £3.80 a pint! Even so, this place is exceedingly popular with a certain crowd (again — check the gallery on their website). You won’t find us here, though, unless we’re… uh… looking for some vodka that tastes like rhubarb, I guess?

Yeah, you probably won’t find us here.
